Aaron Ingalls wins Stone Cup Golf title

With his win in the 14th annual Stone Cup Golf Tournament, Aaron Ingalls is the Champion Golfer of the Year for Jackson-Madison County.

Aaron’s opponent in the final at Jackson Country Club was Captain David Wade of the Jackson Fire Department who held off Jeff Brasfield 1 Up in the semi-final round.

In the Finals, Aaron was just too much, playing flawlessly, and winning 9 & 7.

“Being from Jackson, this is the one tournament I wanted to win,” Ingalls said, “Having my name mentioned with former winners Danny Green and David Salyers is very special.”

According to a press release, Aaron won the title – his first – in a hard-fought semi-final Match over Zack Morton, 3 & 2.

This is the third semi-final loss for Zack to Danny Green, Chase Harris and Aaron, all who went on to win the Stone Cup. Aaron quipped that the road to the Stone Cup goes through Zack Morton.

Aaron now has completed the “Ingalls Slam” by holding at the same time, the Irvin Cobb Golf Championship (Paducah, KY); the Tennessee State Amateur Championship; the Jackson Country Club Championship; and now the Stone Cup Championship. Tiger has his “Tiger Slam” and now Aaron has his “Ingalls Slam.”

In the Senior Stone Cup, Billy Walker held off his hard-charging friend Jeff Lindvall and prevailed 2 & 1 to win his first Senior Stone Cup which was presented to him by his good friend Doc Ames. Doc and Billy and Butch Cashon and Albert Stone spent many a day together so I am sure this title means a lot to Billy, Doc and the Cashon and Stone Families. Jeff now has four (4) runner-up finnshes in the Senior Stone Cup. He is just too good not to win one sometime and he will.

In the Pearce Cup, Loren Pickett defended her crown by defeating TCA Senior to be Josie Wallace 7 & 6. Special thanks to Loren and her family and Josie’s families for their support during the tournament.

While over-all participation was down this year, the quality of golf was not. The field of 16 was the strongest ever.

The annual tournament was played at Jackson National, Woodland Hills, and the Jackson Country Club.
