Lekhy Thompkins literally took matters into his own hands in Trinity Christian Academy’s 27-17 win over District rival Jackson Christian, last Friday.

Lekhy, a sophomore running back, carried the football an amazing 53 times for 192 yards and one touchdown for the Lions, which captured the Division II, Class A West title with the win.

The number of carries makes Lekhy fourth all-time in rushing attempts for one game in TSSAA history.

For his efforts, Lekhy earned the Victory Honda of Jackson, NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM, WNWS.COM, high school football ‘Player of the Week’ award.

The Lions enter the TSSAA State football playoffs with a bye.

“We’re district champs, but we’re practicing like we have a game this week,” Lekhy said, “I would like to thank my linemen for this award.”

TCA (5-0, 8-2) received a bye after winning the Division II, Class A, West Region.

“Lekhy is a special running back – just a sophomore – doing the things he is doing has been amazing,” said Darren Bowling, TCA’s head football coach, “He is a great young man (with) character as well.

“His work ethic on and off the field … the weight room, wherever he is, he is trying to put in more time to get better. Friday night’s performance is a result of that – being able to tote the rock 53 times, his stamina and (endurance) got stronger and stronger as the game went on.

“I’m real proud to be part of his life and for him to be on our football team and doing the things he is doing.”
