‘A couple of notable items’ – Jackson City Council holds monthly meeting

A new city council member, consideration of adjusting language in the CRA and the consideration of an ordinance to amend Title 17 – refuse and trash disposal Ordinance – highlighted the Jackson City Council’s monthly meeting at City Hall, Tuesday.

“A couple of notable items,” said council member Paul Taylor, “The election of Sam Turner CLICK HERE to replace Gary Pickens for District 1. He was sworn in this morning and started his duties immediately.

“Next was the consideration of adjusting some language in the CRA. There were a number of people from the east Jackson community that came out and spoke with some concerns.

“Their concerns didn’t necessarily reflect what we were voting on today, but I think we will take some of those (concerns) and work with those in the committee we are working with now.”

Taylor also mentioned adjustments the city will make on bulk waste collection.

“The final thing was the second reading on some adjustments we’re making for bulk waste collections systems,” Taylor said, “Currently, bulk waste is unsustainable.

“I think everyone in the community would agree with that – so we’ve got to figure out a way to clean this up and make our city more presentable, especially when we are competing with other neighboring communities in the Blue Oval City conversation.

“I’m hopeful that will be implemented in January (2023), and I’m hopeful the Mayor’s office and the City can communicate effectively on what needs to happen and prepare people for those changes.”
