Jackson, Tennessee – The roar of excitement could be felt across Jackson as Lane College proudly introduced Ike the Dragon during Community Day at the season’s final home football game. The debut of Ike not only marked the arrival of a mascot but the dawn of a bold new chapter in Lane’s story, one defined by school spirit, unity, and a deepened connection between the College and the City of Jackson.
Ike’s first appearance was embraced with overwhelming enthusiasm as students, faculty, staff, and alumni welcomed the living symbol of the institution’s courage, determination, and excellence. The Jackson community, gathered in solidarity through the One City. One Team. initiative, joined the celebration as Ike spent the afternoon high-fiving fans, taking photos, and spreading joy throughout the stands. His presence reminded everyone that Lane pride extends beyond its campus and into the heart of the city it calls home.
The energy reached its peak when the Lane College Band closed halftime with “Ike’s Fight Song,” igniting a surge of excitement that swept through the crowd. From the first note to the final beat, the performance captured the essence of the College’s unwavering spirit and its shared journey toward the Next Level of Excellence.
Christopher Jefferson, Band Director of Lane College, reflected on the moment: “The band has been performing Ike’s Fight Song in anticipation of his arrival, and now the music has come to life.”
Dr. Anthony Williams, Vice President for Student Affairs and chief strategist for the student experience, shared his enthusiasm about what Ike represents for the Lane community: “Ike is the heartbeat of our student experience and a rallying point for the entire city. His spirit unites our students, energizes our campus, and strengthens the bond between Lane College and Jackson. This is what Our City. Our Team. truly means.”
The introduction of Ike the Dragon symbolizes more than school spirit. It celebrates the legacy, leadership, and love that defines Lane College. It honors the past while inspiring a new generation to soar higher, together.
Lane College extends its heartfelt gratitude to the students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners who made Community Day an unforgettable success. The College invites everyone to continue following Ike’s journey as he brings the fire of the Dragon to every game, every event, and every heart that beats for the institution.
