The consideration of a revised preliminary plat for Matthew’s Preserve Subdivision, has been approved by the Jackson Municipal Regional Planning Commission.
Consisting of 42 lots and one common area on approximately 142.90 acres in a Single Family Residential District, the subdivision is located behind Trinity Christian Academy.
Plans were submitted by Sharp Development, LLC.
EV battery manufacturer Enchem America cancels plans for $152.2 million facility in Brownsville
Two years after announcing construction plans for a new EV battery supplier in Brownsville, Enchem America, Inc., has canceled plans for the $152.2 million facility.
In June, 2023, South Korea officials announced intentions to construct a facility that would offer 190 jobs in the I-40 Industrial Park, which is located near the Ford Motor Company’s BlueOval City in Haywood County.
In August 2025, Enchem delayed construction on the facility.
“As I understand, the project cancellation is all about market changes in the EV & battery markets caused by shifting consumer demand. You have to build what people want to buy and that changes regularly.
“As for the project location, I believe the property is a certified site through our State site development program and should revert back to the community for them to market to other companies. Construction continues for Highway Business District at North Highland Ave. & 45 Bypass
Tenants have not been announced, but Hayes Properties Commercial Development continues construction on a Highway Business District at North Highland Avenue and U.S. Highway 45 Bypass across from The Jackson Clinic-Baptist Outpatient Campus.
The area is comprised of three acres on approximately 21.60 acres.

Construction continues on La Quinta Inns & Suites, 140 East Park Square in Park Place East.
When complete, the four-story, 87-room hotel will offer 89 parking spaces.
La Quinta Inn & Suites will join Holiday Inn Express & Suites, 55 Parkstone Place, StayAPT Suites, 86 Parkstone Place in Park Place East.
Across Dr. F.E. Wright Drive, WoodSpring Suites joins SpringHill Suites by Marriott, and Best Western Plus Executive Residency in Park Place West.
Marriott Studio Res, is under construction next door to WoodSpring Suites on Lizzie Anna Cove in Park Place West – bringing the total to seven in the area – not including Great Wolf Lodge.
The new four story, 13,600-plus-square-foot prototype hotel is being constructed on approximately three acres and will consist of 124 rooms and 133 parking spaces.
Medina residents purchase ‘The Skating Place’ in Milan
Medina residents and neighbors Scott Cartwright and Jerrod Gibbons hope to keep things on a roll after purchasing ‘The Skating Place’ in Milan at 6049 Telecom Drive.
While Scott doesn’t skate, he and Jerrod saw the passion of those who do – and have – at the 42-year-old entertainment venue.
“A neighbor of Jerrod’s and mine was selling the rink,” Scott said. “We understood that developers had other ideas for the property.”
Scott said it’s his and Jerrod’s first time to venture into a business proposition of this nature, but it’s one they embrace.
“We have a lot of regular (skaters),” Scott said. “Having 80- to 100 is not unusual. It’s a safe place where parents feel comfortable dropping their kids off. A lot of kids come but don’t skate, so it’s also a safe place to hang out.”
The facility offers 10,500-square-feet and the skating floor consists of approximately 6,000-square-feet.
Scott has never worked at ‘The Skating Place’, but he and Jerrod will definitely be onsite to oversee their investment.
“It’s my first time to be involved,” Scott said. “We rent normal skates, and we have about 200 pairs in inventory, but there’s no inline skates or skating.
“We also have concession stands, some arcade games and we’re adding more. There’s also pool tables and air hockey.
“But it’s safety first. We have a manager, so it’s supervised.
“Parents can drop their children off … but they have to come and pick them up.”
Scott said ‘The Skating Place’ is open 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday’s.
Saturdays offers two shifts – there is an open skate from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Christian Skate Day is held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., every other Sunday.
“We are booking different options … Birthday parties, church groups.” Scott said. “The main thing we are doing is offering the facility at different times.”

Long John Silver’s closes North Highland Avenue location
Management could not be reached for comment, but Long John Silver’s, 1919 North Highland Avenue, has closed.
The 2,835-square-foot restaurant was located on 0.62 acres.
