Tennessee minors face 1 year driving ban for bullying/cyberbulling under new law

Effective Tuesday, July 1, 2025, Tennessee minors found guilty of bullying or cyberbullying will lose their privilege to drive – for one year.

A new law sponsored by Rep. Lowell Russell (R–Vonore) requires juvenile court judges to suspend a minor’s driver’s license, or ability to gain a learner’s permit, for one year if the teen is found guilty, also called “delinquent” in juvenile court terminology, for bullying or cyberbullying.

Judges may allow limited exceptions for driving to-and-from school, work or church services.
