GameStop Corp. (NYSE:GME) announced plans to close up to three percent of its stores this year.
GameStop has two stores in Jackson – 1137 Vann Drive in The Shoppes at The Columns and 2103 S. Highland Ave.
The company also has stores in Lexington at 541 W. Church St., 1800 Wayne Rd., in Savannah and 1401 W. Reelfoot Ave., in Union City.
GameStop, which operates 7,500 stores in 14 countries, has not issued a list of store closings.
While it’s not known if stores in the West Tennessee area will be affected, the announcement follows word that Macy’s and Sears – two of the anchor stores in the Old Hickory Mall – were not on a list of store closings nationwide in February.
Sears is shuttering 42 stores.
The company is scheduled to close 108 Kmart locations, but Jackson is not on the list.
JCPenney, which is also in the Old Hickory Mall, announced it is closing about 140 stores, but a list has not been released.
