New ‘Papers Of Andrew Jackson’ Volume Available

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A new volume of “The Papers of Andrew Jackson” has been published and is available through the University of Tennessee Press.

Volume X covers 1832, the year Jackson defeated Henry Clay for a second term, pursued removal of the Southeastern Indians, vetoed the Bank of the United States and faced down the South Carolina nullifiers.

UT says the Library of Congress recently loaded images online of its Andrew Jackson Papers and Martin Van Buren Papers manuscripts, previously available only on microfilm. A collaboration between UT’s Jackson project, the University of Virginia Press and the Library of Congress makes it possible for web users now to click from the printed versions in the project’s digital edition to images of actual manuscripts in the library.

UT says the next two volumes are in progress.
