NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Ten of the 11 members of Tennessee’s congressional delegation want the new federal courthouse in Nashville to be named after the late actor-politician Fred Thompson.

Rep. Jim Cooper, a Nashville Democrat who lost to Thompson in the 1994 Senate race, is the only member of the delegation not to sign a letter in support of dedicating the building to the Lawrenceburg native who died last year at age 73.

Cooper says he’s not opposed to the building being named after the man who beat him “fair and square” in the Senate race. But he says more public input and discussion should be allowed before a decision is made.

Cooper says he would have “no problem” if people in Middle Tennessee ultimately choose to name the courthouse after Thompson.
