JACKSON, Tenn. – A Jackson man accused in an armed robbery and murder last November
had a last chance to enter a plea agreement before going to trial.
Urshawn Miller is charged with first-degree murder in the perpetration of
a felony, especially aggravated robbery, attempted first-degree murder.
Miller is accused of the homicide of Ahmad Dhalai, an employee at the Bull
Market gas station and convenience store on Hollywood Drive, in Jackson.
Miller was in court three weeks ago and at that hearing Judge Don Allen
extended the plea deadline because an agreement seemed to be in the works.
On Friday, prosecutors with the District Attorney’s Office filed a motion
announcing would seek the death penalty or life without parole if the case
goes to trial. Both Gregory Gookin and George Googe, with the Madison
County Public Defender’s Office, said they had not received a copy of the
motion.
Miller is next scheduled to be back in court 1:30 p.m. Oct. 17 for a
status hearing at which time motions may be entered.
