JACKSON, Tenn. - Tony Black, executive director of Recreation and Parks said the possibility to purchase land south of the Tennis Complex on North Highland is a golden opportunity. The city council voted 9-0 to purchase 21 acres of the former Highland Green golf course for $210,300. According to Mayor Jerry Gist, the owner of the property contacted the city with the offer of the land at $7,500 an acre. Gist said it was a good price for land the city park system will eventually use. The property is adjacent to another land the city already owns next to the tennis area across from North Park. The council also voted 8-1 to approve a professional services contract for $100,000 with SCI Architects for an arena/convention center feasibility study. Councilman Harvey Buchanan cast the lone no vote. A final vote will likely come next month
