MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The City Council has voted to lease the abandoned Mid-South Coliseum to the Wiseacre Brewing beer company for redevelopment.
The Commercial Appeal reports that the Memphis City Council voted 11-0 on Tuesday to lease the old concert and sporting events venue to Wiseacre.
The Memphis-based craft brewery has up to 180 days to decide whether to move forward with its plan to put a brewery on the first floor of the Coliseum and sublease the rest. Wiseacre currently operates a taproom in the Broad Avenue arts district in Memphis.
The Coliseum was built in 1963 and played host to concerts by The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix and others. It also played host to professional wrestling, and American Basketball Association and Memphis Tigers basketball games. It closed in 2006.
