The USJ Bruins basketball team had a great week again last week, on both the men and women’s sides. The week started with two huge wins against JCS. The Lady Bruins dominated the Eagles 70-47. It was an all around clinic from Joel Ayer’s squad where they dominated on defense and offense against a very talented JC team. It started out close early, but the Lady Bruins relentless offense and stifling defense proved to be way too much led by another incredible performance from generational talent Haylen Ayers. This team showed once again, that they are a complete basketball team and are going to be hard to stop.
On the men’s side the Bruins beat JC in another close one 40-38 to get the season sweep. The team played with an incredible amount of heart and pulled out another gutsy win. Mills Terry and Sam Keyl scored when it mattered, but they once again proved that defense wins games.
To finish the week off, both teams played at home against Fayette Academy on Senior night. The Lady Bruins defeated Fayette Academy 60-11! Senior Ellen Driver had a great performance at the right time, being the only senior on the squad. Ellen had multiple steals and 11 points, with intense play all night long. Haylen Ayers once again played great, and the whole team shot well. The younger players got time to shine late in the game, and showed the potential the lady Bruins have for the future. With freshmen, Ella Salee and cooper McGee contributing some late points.
On the men’s side, the Bruins got the W pretty convincingly winning 60-44. The squad once again played great defense, which has been a staple throughout the year and shot an incredible 48% from the three point line. Sam Keyl, Wallace Driver, and Corben Howard hit some big 3’s, but the player of the game was Mills Terry, with 24 points on his senior night! It felt like every time the Vikings tried to fight back, Terry was there to silence them. It was a great week to be a Bruin, and we hope to continue this success as we travel to Trinity on Friday!
