Environmental Court schedules demolition of former convenience store on North Highland Avenue

An order for demolition of property located at 935 North Highland Ave., has been issued due to code violations by Judge Blake Anderson, City of Jackson Environmental Court.

The building is a former convenience store.

According to the Order, multiple letters (had) been sent to the Defendant by the City of Jackson. A Summons was issued regarding the Defendant’s failure to comply with the City of Jackson’s codes and was served on June 24, 2024.

The Defendant did not appear for the July 22, 2024, Court date regarding this matter.

Based on testimony of the City Building Department regarding the current condition of the property and its danger to the public, photos of the property, and the record as a whole in this matter, this property is found to be a blight and immediate hazard to the welfare of the surrounding community and the City as a whole, and a danger to the public safety needing immediate demolition.

… the property shall be demolished within (30) days of the entry of this Order.

The next Court date in this matter is set for August 19, 2024, at 9:30 a.m., at 391 S. Royal Street, Jackson, Tennessee.
