The annual ‘Heart & Sole’ program, sponsored by the Old Hickory Rotary Club and Jackson Rotary Club visited Thelma Barker Elementary School, today.
The purpose was to present 700 pairs of shoes and an equal number of pairs of socks to students.
“This is our fifth year – coordinated by Rotarian Shelley Hayes each of the five years – to present kids shoes and socks in the Jackson Madison School System.” said Steve Bowers, Old Hickory Rotary Club member. “The last five years every elementary school has been served.”
Bowers said the number of schools visited each year depends on the size of the school.
The program was aided by a compassionate community who helped with donations.
Before children were fitted with the new shoes, they had their feet washed (John 13:1-17) by those helping at the event.
