With a win in the University of Montevallo, Alabama, Full Moon BBQ Invitational, and a sixth-place finish in the Nova Southeastern Shark Invitational in Miami, Gray Campbell, a junior finance major at Union University earns the Victory Honda of Jackson, NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM, WNWS.COM, college ‘Player of the Week’ award.
“I’d like to thank Victory Honda for the award,” Campbell said, “We just returned from Miami where we had a really good event. We beat some really good teams. We have some high goals and I have some high goals myself.
“These last two weeks these tournaments were a big step forward in the direction we are trying to go. We look forward to hopefully having a chance at postseason and hopefully making a run and maybe winning nationals.”
Union won the Montevallo Full Moon BBQ Invitational by seven strokes, and Gray won the medalist honors in at Montavello by three strokes after shooting a 65 in first round and 69 in second round with an 8-under par 134.
In Miami, Union placed third overall in a field of 16, where eight of the teams were either ranked or receiving votes in the national rankings, including No. 1 Tampa and No. 2 Nova.
Union finished third behind Florida Southern (received votes) and No. 20 Saint Leo.
Gray finished tied for sixth. He was in a tie for second after the first round of 69. He had an eagle in the event. He shot 69, 71, 73 for a 213 (E) event.
