‘Quen’ Brooks, Peabody senior defensive back, named Victory Honda of Jackson, ‘Player of the Week’

Talking to Quenterious Brooks, you get the feeling he is definitely a student of the game of football.

Before he takes his position as a senior defensive back for the Peabody Golden Tide, ‘Quen’ will break down film on his opponent, which paid off in Peabody’s 28-20 win over Gibson County, Friday, Sept. 15.

For his efforts, Quen, who picked off two passes, made seven solo tackles and blocked an extra point attempt, has earned the Victory Honda of Jackson, NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM, WNWS.COM, high school football ‘Player of the Week,’ award.

“I just take it a day at a time … working a lot during the passing period (which) helps my eyes where I can visualize the game more,” Quen said, “I watch a lot of film and that contributes a lot.

“The first interception … I knew what the play was, so I jumped the fade route – the quarterback didn’t see me in time – so I jumped in and intercepted it.

“The second interception … it was a goal line play … it was me just being disciplined. We were playing man coverage on about the 10-yard line – game on the line – and the receiver ran a 10 yard stop and he tried to cut out to the front pylon.

I stayed patient … I watched him break and I just jumped the route.”
