Highlights from the June 2023 Labor Force Estimates:
- The Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for Tennessee decreased to 3.2% from May’s 3.3%.
- During the same time period, the Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for the United States decreased to 3.6% from May’s 3.7%.

Jackson Bowling & Skating Family Fun Center donates $28,000 to 7 local nonprofits
To celebrate its 28th anniversary, the Jackson Bowling & Skating Family Fun Center, 59 Bowling Drive, presented $28,000 to seven local nonprofits, during a ceremony, Tuesday.
“What a blessing we have in Young Kim, owner of the Jackson Bowling & Skating Family Fun Center,” said Frank McMeen, “He immigrated to America from South Korea and began his one-hour photo business.
“From there he built four shopping centers and then this amazing entertainment center.”
Frank McMeen is the president of The Community Foundation of West Tennessee.
“To celebrate 28 years of success, Young gives back to help others,” Frank said, “Jackson is blessed to have people like Young Kim.”
Recipients of a check of $4,000 each were the Regional Inter-Faith Association (RIFA), The Star Center, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Boys & Girls Club, Women’s Resource and Rape Assistance Program (WRAP), All Saints Immigration Services, and Jonah Affordable Housing Organization.
West Tennessee Healthcare – Breonna Ellison named employee of the month
Breonna Ellison has been an employee at West Tennessee Healthcare for over five years, has been named the employee of the month for July.
Breonna, who works at West Tennessee Neurosciences, was presented the award by Darrell King – vice president – physician and ambulatory services – when the West Tennessee Healthcare Board of Trustees held its monthly meeting at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, Tuesday.
According to a press release from Amy Garner Chief Compliance & Communications Officer – West Tennessee Healthcare – Breonna’s coworkers say she has always been a perfect example of what a leader should be.
“They say she is a special person and is always willing and ready to assist other employees as well as our patients,” Garner said, “She is exceptionally talented in her job and ready to help! Breonna is always willing to step in and help anywhere that is needed at any time.
“If you have any issues, she is always right there with you doing whatever she can to fix it. She is a joy to work with. She is compassionate, hard-working, an all-around professional, a clear and effective communicator, and an extremely hard worker.
“She is very fair and advocates for those she sees working hard. She goes above and beyond to make the clinic better. The neuro team is very grateful to have her!”

Construction continues on new hotel concept in Park Place East
Management could not be reached for comment, and an opening date has not been announced, but construction continues on a new hotel concept – stayAPT Suites – at 86 Parkstone Place in Park Place East near the Holiday Inn Express & Suites.
The 59-room hotel will consist of 19,853 square feet located on a 2.19 acre lot, and offer 94 parking spaces.
The suites will offer 500-plus square feet and feature a full-size kitchen with full-size appliances, dedicated living room and a separate bedroom.
Amenities will include –
