On January 6, 2023, Captain Jeff Middleton became the latest in a group of fine law
enforcement officers appointed as the Lexington, Tn. Police Chief. Jeff began his police career
with the department in 1991 and worked in patrol, investigations, narcotics and management
at all levels. Officers from all over the country at all levels of law enforcement know and respect him. He will serve the citizens of Lexington well.

Jeff took over the reins from former Chief Roger Loftin, who recently retired. Roger
served with the Lexington Police Department for almost 40 years. He worked as a patrolman,
shift sergeant, criminal investigator, and finally, chief. His 32-year tenure as police chief was the longest in Tennessee. Chief Loftin was always ready to help and do whatever was needed to accomplish the mission. I am proud to call him a friend.

Another fine officer who was police chief in Lexington was my great friend Bob Pollard.
After several outstanding years of service as chief, Bob moved on to become known as one of
the best arson investigators in the country. He ended his career in state government in upper
management with the Tennessee Bomb & Arson Unit. After leaving the Bomb & Arson Unit, Bob was the Chief Investigator for the Memphis Fire Department.

Bob left us to be with the Lord on January 9, 2020. He left quite a law enforcement
legacy. His sons dedicated themselves to serving others through police work. His wife Patsy
ended her career in public service as a member of the TBI. Bob trained thousands of officers in
investigations and management. He was one of my best and most trusted friends for many
years.
