1 dead following officer-involved shooting; JPD officer placed on administrative leave

From the Jackson Police Department –

On March 12, at approximately 6:16 p.m., the Jackson Police Department responded to a Shotspotter alert at 30 Bronzewood Cove. Upon arrival, officers made contact with an individual in the backyard, with a handgun.

The individual refused to comply with officers and continued to fire the weapon. The individual also pointed the weapon in the direction of the officers. A Jackson Police Officer fired one (1) round, striking the individual, and he was later pronounced deceased at a local hospital.

The Jackson Police Department contacted the District Attorney’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is the lead agency conducting the investigation, due to it being an officer involved shooting resulting in the death of an individual. The investigation is ongoing and there will be no further statements from the Jackson Police Department at this time.

The officer has been placed on Administrative Leave pending the outcome of the investigation, as is standard procedure.
