JACKSON, Tenn. — Madison County Commission’s at their October meeting had several key items on the agenda
One of those was whether to purchase land for an expansion of the jail.
Before the commission was a proposal to purchase four and a half acres that is next to the Madison County Criminal Justice Complex.
The proposal came as a Long-Range planning committee recommendation.
Chairman Gary Deaton told the commissioners the expansion is needed to address jail overcrowding. Deaton said the constructing costs could run as high $30 million or more.
There was no discussion regarding a timeline or next steps.
