Saturday marks the beginning of the 2023 UFC calendar. The Co-Main Event features a belt defense; and a vacant belt up for grabs.

Glover Teixeira (33-8-0) looks to reclaim the vacant Light-Heavyweight belt against Jamahal Hill (11-1-0) in the main event. Teixeira, will make his 23rd walk to the UFC octagon. He hopes to rebound from his final-minute loss to Jiri Prochazka at UFC 275. Prochazka got the win via submission.

Hill comes in to this bout (11-1-0). Let’s state the obvious: Hill is the significantly more athletic, faster, and younger fighter. Texieira is severely outmatched in those regards. However, there’s not many fighters in the octagon as durable as Glover Texieira.

These types of fights are common in combat sports; the old veteran supposedly served up on a silver platter to a much younger up-and-coming fighter.

Odds for this bout: Hill is favored (-125) to Texieira (+105)

Also on the Main Card: Deiveson Figueiredo vs Brandon Moreno IV

This historic fight will see Figueiredo and Moreno square up for a fourth time. The first time in UFC history two fighters have engaged in four fights with the same opponent.

The big story outside the octagon in this bout was the transition of camps for Moreno. Moreno was originally coached by James Krause; the disgraced coach is at the center of multiple investigations into an alleged gambling ring.

What happened throughout Moreno’s latest camp is a testament to his resilience, the selflessness of his team and a late-replacement head coach, Sayif Saud, who never had so much as held pads for Moreno before he agreed to take the reins of his preparations mid-camp. It’s a great story, Moreno rekindling his joy amid a tricky situation ahead of the biggest fight of his life.
