DYERSBURG Tenn – The company that manufactures and markets Sun laundry and household care products announced that it will close its Dyersburg facility in December 2015.
Sun Products Corporation, director of corporate affairs, Kathryn Corbally, told the Dyersburg State Gazette, “Laundry care products and packaging are evolving and consumers are increasingly buying liquid and single-dose laundry detergents. As a result, demand for powder laundry detergent has been steadily declining over the years, and today is just 11 percent of the laundry category.”
In a statement Corbally said, “We are very proud of our manufacturing operation in Dyersburg, and the company appreciates the dedication and professionalism that associates have demonstrated over the years.
The company statement said many employees will have the opportunity to stay with Sun Products Corporation in one of the company’s other locations.
According to the Dyersburg Gazette, the Dyersburg plant was built by Clorox in 1987/88. The plant became part of Sun Products in 2008. The company employs 175 people.
