Union University senior Tylandruis Parks was named the Gulf South Conference and Tennessee Sports Writer’s Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
This is the first GSC weekly award this season for Parks and second for Union men’s basketball (Ivan Prug, GSC Freshman of the Week, 12/13/22). It is also the first TSWA weekly award this season for Union.
Parks, a 6-foot-5 guard from Pocahontas, Tenn./Middleton High School, helped Union to a 2-0 week and extending the team’s winning streak to five games. Parks averaged a double-double this week with 23 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game.
Union is 8-4 overall and 7-1 in the GSC, good for first place at the Christmas break. Union returns to action December 31 in a road game at GSC foe West Georgia.

Union University senior Shanique Lucas was named the Gulf South Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending December 18, 2022. This is the first GSC weekly honor for both Lucas and Union women’s basketball this season.
Lucas, a 5-foot-8 guard from Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, helped Union to a 2-0 week. She averaged a double-double on the week with 20.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.
Union is 7-2 on the season and 6-2 in the GSC. Union will return to action Thursday, December 29 at 6 p.m. in a home game versus Lane College.
