Josh Aldridge, a native of Jackson, has been named interim head football coach at Liberty University.
He replaces Hugh Freeze, who was named head football coach at Auburn University, Nov. 28.
Aldridge, a Jackson Christian School graduate and three-year starter for the Eagles who won the Class 1A State Football Championship in 2006, will coach the Flames in the 2022 Roofclaim.com Boca Raton Bowl in Boca Raton, Florida, Tuesday.
Liberty will be looking for its fourth-straight bowl win when the Flames face Toledo.
At Jackson Christian, Aldridge was named the Region 8-1A Defensive Player of the Year.
Aldridge, a William V. Campbell Trophy Award Semifinalist during his playing days at Harding, joined head coach Hugh Freeze’s coaching staff at Liberty as the defensive line coach in 2019.
Shortly after the conclusion of the 2021 season, Aldridge was promoted to Co-Defensive Coordinator.
During the 2022 season, Aldridge coached Liberty’s linebackers.
