Sam Driggers, Peabody senior quarterback, named 101.5 FM, WNWS.COM football ‘Player of the Week’

NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM & WNWS.COM did what defensive units at the majority of area high school football programs haven’t been able to do.

We caught up with Sam Driggers, a senior quarterback at Peabody High School, who has been named the NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM, WNWS.COM football ‘Player of the Week,’ presented by Mann’s Wrecker and AJD Metal Designs.com.

The award was delayed one week due to Peabody’s fall break.

He completed 12-of-14 passes for 197 yards and three touchdowns in Peabody’s 43-0 win over Halls, Sept. 30.

For the season, Sam completed 83 of 119 passes – 69.7 percent completion rate – for 1,468 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Sam, who has committed to play football at Middle Tennessee State University, is not afraid to take a hit.

His rushing game is enough to make some running backs blush. He has rushed for 241 yards on 32 carries for an average of 7.5 yards per carry and six touchdowns in six games.

“I appreciate this community, the coaching staff – like coach Jacobs – and this opportunity for three years,” Sam said, “I really like my offensive line I have protecting me each day, and I thank my receivers for being there for me and making big time plays.”

Coaches Quote –

“We really appreciate the recognition Sam is getting for ‘Player of the Week,’ said Shane Jacobs, Peabody’s head football coach, “Sam has been an incredible leader for our football team … a three-year starter at quarterback … does a great job on the field, off the field leading our guys – a lot of character, a lot of class (who) represents our program the right way.

“Sam really epitomizes what we want out of a Peabody football player.”
