Union Volleyball defeats Trevecca Nazarene, 3-1

The Union University volleyball team defeated Trevecca Nazarene University 3-1 (25-19, 16-25, 25-20, 25-22) Tuesday evening at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Union improved to 4-1 on the season, while Trevecca suffered its first loss, dropping to 4-1.
Union never trailed in the first set, but it was close, as the final margin at 25-19 was the largest lead for Union.
Trevecca dominated the second set jumping out to a 7-2 lead, including six straight points. TNU led by 10 on three different occasions in the set.
In the third set, Union jumped up 8-3. However, Trevecca rallied back to lead 15-13. Union dominated from that point, finishing the match on a 12-5 run.
Much like the third set, Union jumped up 9-3 in the fourth. And again, TNU rallied with an 8-1 run, including six straight to lead 11-10. The teams went back and forth until TNU jumped out to a 22-20 lead. After a Union timeout, the Bulldogs scored the final five points to take the match. Union got four kills in that final five points, two from Emily Grace Calhoon and one each from Alyssa Tatsch, and the match winner from Hanna Hampel.
Up next for Union will be the first road games of the season. The Lady Bulldogs head to Shawnee, Oklahoma for the Oklahoma Baptist Classic Friday and Saturday, September 2-3. Union plays Texas A&M Kingsville and Texas-Tyler Friday and then St. Edward’s and Oklahoma Baptist Saturday.
