West Tennessee Council of the Boy Scouts of America representatives will visit kindergarten through fifth-grade students this upcoming school year to share how citizenship training, physical fitness through outdoor program experiences prepares youth to be responsible, contributing members of society over their lifetime by instilling values based upon those found in the Scout Oath and Law.
“Scouting has been a means of developing character in children across the nation while teaching them life skills for decades,” said Adrian Hackett, the director of the West Tennessee Council, “This is a great opportunity for young people in all parts of West Tennessee to become a member and really begin to grow as a person because of it.”
According to a press release from Brandon Shields – The Bramblett Group – former Scouts who serve their communities in the region include West Tennessee Healthcare CEO James Ross, Charles Byrd of Byrd & Byrd Attorneys at Law and many other community leaders throughout the region.
“Coming up through the Scouting program gave me life skills I probably wouldn’t have learned otherwise,” said Ross, who was also an Eagle Scout. “That led to me going through BSA’s Explorer program that exposed me to the healthcare profession and started the journey to where I am today.”
The West Tennessee Council has Scouting troops in every county of West Tennessee with the opportunity for additional growth.
