Division II Class A West Region Preview
Division II’s Western flank was squarely a two-team race with Jackson Christian and the University School of Jackson ahead of the pack.
USJ
Michael Stroup, Head Coach
2021 Record (9-3 Overall, 6-0 District)
Preview:Â Dominance was the word to describe the Bruins’ 2021 campaign. A undefeated district record of six and zero certainly makes going into this season promising for the Bruins. The Bruins’ had an impressive points per average of 37.3 and a stellar defensive unit that held opponents to 12.9 points; giving USJ a differential of +24.4.
JCS
Darby Palmer, Head Coach
2021 Record (9-3 Overall, 5-1 District)
Preview: Having an impressive 9-3 season was great for the Eagles football program. Only scoring 17 or less three times, the eagles had a steady offensive attack and an okay defensive output to cap off the year, posting an 11.1 point differential throughout 2021.
Fayette Academy
Michael Hodum, Head Coach
2021 Record (3-8 Overall, 2-4 District)
Preview: A record of three wins and eight losses isn’t pretty, mostly in part to a lackluster defensive output. However, looking to turn it around with a fresh start can mean good things for the Vikings. Knowing your weaknesses means you know where to improve and Fayette will look to right the ship this upcoming year.
TCA
Blake Butler, Head Coach
2021 Record (5-8 Overall, 3-3 District)
Preview: Last season, the Lions had a respectable 5-8 record, with notable wins over Tipton Rosemark and Columbia Academy. However, starting the season on a five game losing streak isn’t pretty, as well as getting crushed by rival USJ 59-7. There are good pieces to build around though, a steady offense averaging 20.3 points will help to soften the blows. The main concern is the defensive side of the ball, which surrendered 29 points a game.
Harding Academy
Herbert Kendall, Head Coach
2021 Record (1-7 Overall, 0-6 District)
Preview: Going winless in District play is a tough pill to swallow. However, when you are at the bottom, you can only go up and that is what the Lions of Harding Academy plan to do.
Tipton-Rosemark
William Dean, Head Coach
2021 Record (6-5 Overall, 3-3 District)
Preview: With a .500 record in district play, the Rebels definitely have the goal to achieve this upcoming year. With a point average of 22 and a differential of +0.8, the Rebels’ had a well-rounded offense and a stout defense. These traits will certainly look to be carried over into this season.
First Assembly ChristianÂ
Mitch McDaniel, Head Coach
2021 Record (4-7 Overall, 2-4 District)
Preview:Â A record of 4-7 isn’t that bad, the Crusaders had a point differential of -12.6. A stale offense and dilapidated defense really holds back the Crusaders. The good news is that they now have something to strive towards.
