Child Death Investigation Finds Worker Lied In Records

BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A former child services investigator lied about meeting with the father of a child who later died.

The Kingsport Times-News reports ( ) Cathy Agnew pleaded guilty to forgery in Sullivan County District Court on Thursday after an investigation into the child’s death found she falsely reported the meeting in Department of Children’s Services records.

The father had previously died of a drug overdose.

The forgery charge is a Class E felony that carries a sentence of one to two years in prison. It will be up to the judge to decide how long she serves and whether she receives probation. She will be sentenced in November.
