Jackson Police Officer Assaulted During A Traffic Stop

JACKSON, Tenn. — A man was in court to face charges of assaulting a police officer and trying to run during a traffic stop.

Mitchell Ridley was stopped by Jackson Police just before 5 p.m. Monday on North Fairgrounds Street for not wearing a seat belt, according to an affidavit.

Officers say Ridley told them he was on parole.  Due to the conditions of the parole, police performed a search of the vehicle , the document states.

Police say it was during the search that a plastic bag containing .8 grams of crack fell to the ground.

When officers tried to handcuff Ridley, he fought, pushed the officer away and fled on foot before being caught in a backyard on Burkett Street and taken into custody, according to the affidavit.

Mitchell Ridley is charged with simple assault on a police officer, evading arrest, resisting arrest and felony possession of schedule II. The judge set his bond at $30,000
