JACKSON (TN) — Eleven-year old Naomi Thompson, a Jackson resident, has organized a trash pickup as part of her community service platform and for the state’s Keep Tennessee Beautiful initiative.
She’s partnering with her dance studio Pat Brown School of Dancing and the Madison County Fire Department to pick up trash along a Jackson road, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, April 30.
Madison County has determined a location for the volunteers and will provide the supplies, including grabbers, gloves and trash bags.
The group will meet at Fire Station 11 at 3161 Christmasville Road in Jackson.
“This will help our community by keeping Jackson clean and beautiful,” Naomi said. “Through this, we are also making the world a better place to live.”
To volunteer or donate waters, contact Naomi and her mom Lasherica Thornton at lashericathornton@gmail.com or be at the meet location this Saturday.
Naomi started the service platform the Earth We Make to do trash pickups in her community, recycle and encourage others to do the same.
“We have to do more than just pick up trash,” she said. “The trash is all over our community because of littering. I want people to be aware of their actions and encourage them to recycle things like paper and plastic and throw away trash.”
