Southern Airways Express – Department of Transportation approves new air service for Jackson

Jackson, TENNESSEE – The U.S. Department of Transportation has selected Southern Airways Express LLC (Southern Airways) to provide Essential Air Service (EAS) at Jackson, Tennessee for a two-year period from June 1, 2022, to May 31, 2024.

Southern Airways Chairman and CEO Stan Little said, “We have rebuilt community air service many times before, and we understand how to do it. You will see our executives highly involved in the Jackson community. Having been born and raised in Humboldt, I will take extra pride in seeing Southern serve my hometown Jackson airport.”

Southern Airways will provide three daily departures to Atlanta from McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport, with fares ranging from $69 to $99 each way, as well as offering weekend seasonal flights to Destin, Florida.

Additionally, Southern Airways interline ticketing and baggage agreements with American, United, and Alaska Airlines afford passengers the opportunity to book flights between Jackson and their final destination in one single transaction via iFlySouthern.com.

“Southern Airways Express has 35 aircraft with over 220 daily departures across the country,” said Steve Smith, Executive Director of the Jackson-Madison County Airport Authority. “Their on-time performance is No. 1 in the nation at 94.1%, and their controllable completion rate was over 99%. Those are two areas we expect an airline to deliver when flying out of McKellar-Sipes.”

Southern Airways representative Mark Cestari will attend the regular Airport Authority Meeting on Monday, April 11th at 5 pm, and the public is welcome.

There will be a question-and-answer segment available. The meeting takes place in the Authority Board Room at 308 Grady Montgomery Drive.

The Department of Transportation will require the current carrier, Boutique Air, to continue providing air service through May 31, 2022, as required by their contract.
