From the Madison County Sheriff’s Office –

Madison County Sheriff John Mehr is pleased to announce that a $150,000 grant has been awarded to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA).

These funds will aid in furthering the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training program, which prepares first responders to more effectively assist individuals undergoing a mental health crisis.

The MCSO will partner with ten rural law enforcement agencies, representing a population of approximately 160,000 people, to assess the nature of the mental health crisis calls from the following counties: Chester, Crockett, Dyer, Gibson, Hardeman, Haywood, Henderson, Lake, McNairy and Obion.

This Bureau of Justice Assistance law enforcement grant, will enhance the already existing Madison County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Intervention program.

The (CIT) program training is available at the West Tennessee Regional Training Center (WTRTC), which is centrally located for all of the partnering 10 counties.

This program is in collaboration with Madison County Sheriff’s Office, west Tennessee Healthcare, Jackson Police Department and other local agencies.
