MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Prosecutors say a Memphis teen has been sentenced to 30 years in prison without the possibility of parole for the fatal shooting of a construction contractor.

The Shelby County district attorney’s office says 17-year-old Derek Cunningham Jr. was sentenced by a judge after pleading guilty to second-degree murder Friday.

Authorities say Cunningham and a co-defendant Corey Sandifer, robbed John “J. P.” Shelley of his iPad and cash as Shelley met with a construction worker at a home in a Memphis neighborhood on Oct. 4, 2013.

Authorities say Cunningham shot Shelley during the robbery. Cunningham was 15 at the time of the shooting, and he was charged with first-degree murder as an adult.

Sandifer and Thomas Moss, both 18, also face murder charges for their alleged roles in the holdup
