Initiative for new Skatepark in Jackson passes during City Council meeting

An initiative for a new Skatepark turned into approval during the Jackson City Council’s February meeting at City Hall, Tuesday.

Land for the Skatepark Initiative of West Tennessee, which will consist of a 10,000 square foot concrete skatepark at 40 Match Point Drive near the Jackson Tennis Center & Croquet Lawns, is being donated by the City of Jackson.

The city is not involved in issuing any funds for the complex.

Operators of the complex have 501c3 status under the Eddleman Foundation hope to raise funds during an 18-month timeline.

According to organizers, skateparks have social, emotional, physical, and economic benefits. They enhance creativity, connection, and resilience. They develop a portion of the community that team sports cannot. They allow for recreational diversity – everyone plays.

Skateboarding and BMX are Olympic events.
