Gary Pickens announces candidacy for Mayor of Madison County

Gary Pickens, a lifelong resident of Madison County, officially announced he is running for Mayor of Madison County in the Republican Primary, which will be held May 3.

Pickens, who works as a Medicare Coordinator at Physicians Quality Care made his announcement at PQC, Thursday.

“Over the next four years many exciting opportunities are ahead for Madison County,” Pickens said, “My goal is to work to ensure the residents of this county reap the benefits of these opportunities. We know we have the potential to be positively impacted by Blue Oval City, Great Wolf Lodge and many others. But to maximize the economic and job potential for us the residents of Madison County, we must all work together.”

Pickens, who also serves as a Jackson City Councilman – District 1 – said Madison County reaches the goal of working together with leadership.

“Leadership is not easy,” Pickens said, “A leader must be willing to have conversations, get all the facts, weigh the benefits and the potential pitfalls and then muster the courage to take a to take a stand.”

Pickens, who locals will remember as a 29-year weatherman at a Jackson television station, said a leader must possess several traits.

“Bearing, courage, decisiveness, dependability, enthusiasm and empathy,” Pickens said, “I hope during the upcoming campaign I can demonstrate I have the leadership ability to bring jobs, quality education needed for those jobs and an assurance that everything I do will be for the betterment of this county and its residents.”
