Tara Skinner elected to Jackson City Council; fills unexpired term of Harvey Buchanan

Tara Skinner, who calls herself ‘a lifetime community servant and driven constituent of District 4 for over 20 years with a keen understanding of both the local ordinances and the District 4 residents,’ was elected by the Jackson City Council to fill the unexpired term of Harvey Buchanan, who passed away in December, 2021.

“I’m looking forward to moving forward with this city, together,” said Skinner, after she was sworn in by Judge Blake Anderson, “District 4, we have all the components of a great City.”

Skinner joined Margaret Fuller Kimmins, Mary Alice Parker, Carla A. Pollard and Marilyn Rucker during the interview process with the City Council.

Skinner said she wanted to follow Buchanan’s legacy by serving her community in a better capacity than what she has been doing.

“I can continue pushing for affordable housing,” Skinner said, “I can continue pushing for community involvement (and) I can make sure our district is educated because councilman Buchanan already laid the foundation for us.

“I have been working with the community, making sure we had affordable housing, nice, affordable housing, that we had a safer community, so what we want to do now is work with everybody so we can have a safer community – that’s the No. 1 goal. Once we have a safer community then we can start getting things like more homes, more businesses in our area.”
