Steele Haynes, University School of Jackson is the 2021 Tennessee Titans Mr. Football for Division II-A.
The 2021 Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Awards were presented by Titans general manager and former Union City football player Jon Robinson at Nissan Stadium.
Steele was also named the Division-II A West Region Player of the Year.
He finished the season with 1,615 yards rushing with 10.6 yards per carry and 201.8 yards per game. He had 152 carries and 29 TD’s.
“We are proud of Steele and what he has done for us over the past four years; he is a tremendously
hard worker with a strong work ethic,” said Michael Stroup, USJ’s head football coach, “As the team captain this year, Steele was an intricate part of our success this season.”
High school head coaches and members of the media nominated the finalists. A committee of
statewide sports writers selected winners based on performance in the 2021 regular season.
Academics and character were also taken into consideration.
Since 1993 the Bruins have had six players honored with the Mr. Football award. Urban Barrett
(1993), Tripp Tucker (1998), Jake Overbey (2009, 2010), and Chase Hensley (2012). The last Bruin
to be recognized with the Titans Mr. Football award was Trey Smith (2015, 2016).
Class 2A
Westview quarterback Ty Simpson won the Class 2A award over Cameron Huckabey (Meigs County) and Cameron Miller (MAHS).
Simpson, an Alabama commitment, was 144/224 for 2,130 yards and 28 TDs in the regular season. He rushed 72 times for 554 yards and 8 TDs.
Class 1A
Peabody’s Khalik Ganaway won the Class 1A award over finalists De’Andre Kelly (South Pittsburg) and Marquez Taylor (McKenzie).
