Seven area convenience stores face charges following an underage alcohol operation conducted by Metro Narcotics, Oct. 14, 2021.

Site plan approved for new car wash near Kroger on West University Parkway
A preliminary site plan for a new car wash – WOW WASH – which will be located at the 101 block of West University Parkway, near Kroger, was approved by the Jackson Municipal Regional Planning Commission at Jackson City Hall, Wednesday.
The site plan – submitted by Brandon Buchanan on behalf of Parkway Partners – shows the facility will consist of 5,054 square feet and will be constructed on approximately 1.22 acres.
When constructed, WOW WASH will offer four parking spaces and 20 vacuum stalls.
Program targeted toward African American businesses locating in former train depot
For those familiar with theCo, 541 Wiley Parker Road, there will soon be a new kid on the block when The Soul Collective takes up residence at 582 South Royal Street, the former home of the NC & Stl Depot, Railroad and Museum.
The Soul Collective, founded in June 2021, is an entrepreneurial incubator which concentrates on elevating arts, culture, knowledge and wellness of Black and minority businesses through unity, commerce, education and social entertainment.
“We leased (depot) to theCO, and they are going to sublease or run a program out of it called ‘The Soul Collective,’ which is targeted toward African American businesses,” said council member Paul Taylor, “It’s a startup incubator … so we are excited to see that get off the ground, as well.”
Soul Collective will include a physical retail shop allowing participants to test pricing, products and more.
They will also be helping participants create, maintain and grow an online presence, with a goal to help evaluate the brands from local to a regional and national scale.
Commercial property on Vann Drive sells for $5 million plus
A facility leased by Goodwill Industries, 1495 Vann Drive, has been purchased by Agree Limited Partnership.
The company purchased the property from Columns Development Partners for $5,365,000.
Old Hickory Steak House closes due to fire
Management could not be reached for comment, but the Old Hickory Steak House, 624 Old Hickory Blvd., is closed due to a fire, late Monday or early Tuesday morning.
Jackson Beer Board approves 2 special occasion permits during monthly meeting
The Jackson Beer Board approved two special occasion requests for beer permits during its monthly meeting at City Hall, Tuesday.
Meg Montgomery was approved for a special occasion permit for an event known as Black Tie & Boxing for selling, storing, and serving at the Civic Center.
The event will be held January 22, 2022.
Ashley Teague was approved for a special occasion known as the Preview Party for the USJ Holiday Mart for selling, storing, and serving at the Civic Center.
The Preview Party will be held Thursday, Nov. 18, and the Holiday Mart will be held Nov. 19-21, at the Carl Perkins Civic Center.
50th University School of Jackson ‘Holiday Mart’ set for Civic Center, November 19-21
This is the 50th Anniversary year of USJ’s annual Holiday Mart and it is the school’s largest fundraiser.
The Holiday Mart starts November 19th and runs through Sunday November 21st @ the Carl Perkins Civic Center.
