A resolution for a Jackson Bicentennial Park, which will be located downtown in a ‘Y’ between Airways Boulevard and West Lafayette Street, was approved when the Jackson City Council held its monthly meeting at Jackson City Hall, Tuesday.
The project, in collaboration with the Jackson-Madison County Library Foundation, has received private contributions through the Foundation in part to establish, construct and dedicate a Bicentennial Park for the purpose of celebrating the 200-year heritage of Jackson and Madison County.
“What the plans are, is to have a time capsule, and a sculpture recognizing and commemorating the 200 years of Jackson,” said Marda Wallace, city council member, “We are very excited about this … we just learned we have received a grant from TDOT (Tennessee Department of Transportation).”
Kellogg will be the sponsor and the groundbreaking will be held Nov. 13.
“This will also leave an area for industry to still develop in downtown,” Wallace said, “We think this is the best of both worlds – to be able to have a (location) for our Bicentennial celebration and to also have a space for industry to come in, because we always want to see our downtown developing.”
