Ford Motor Company donates $20,000 in scholarships to Haywood High School seniors

BROWNSVILLE, TENNESSEE — The arrival of Ford Motor Company has been heralded as an exciting and game-changing moment for West Tennessee. Along with providing thousands of new jobs and opportunities for residents in Haywood County and beyond, Ford also brings over 100 years of success and innovation in the automotive industry.

As a way to invest in Haywood County, Ford Motor Company has donated $20,000 in scholarships to Haywood High School seniors.

Ford Regional Government Relations Director, Gabby Bruno, understands the importance of supporting and partnering with Haywood County students and investing in their future.

“We are proud to support Haywood High School students with scholarship funds. As we embark on this journey, we are committed to being a good neighbor and to give back to the communities that we are joining,” Bruno explained.

While Blue Oval City is yet to break ground, Ford’s impact is already having a positive effect on Haywood County students.

Jackson Energy Authority Board of Directors approve 5 resolutions during monthly meeting

The Board of Directors of Jackson Energy Authority approved five resolutions during their monthly meeting at the Tennergy Center, Thursday.

The Board authorized resolutions for –

A professional engineering services agreement for the Electric System Long Range Plan.
The purchase of one new 70-foot insulated tree trimming aerial device on cab & chassis for the Electric Division.
The purchase of JEA truck service body.
The purchase of a Meter Data Management System.
The board also approved a resolution affirming JEA’s Identity Theft Prevention Policy and included procedures to comply with revisions of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act.

“The JEA Board of Directors met today to discuss five new items of business, which were all approved,” Monte Jones said, “Those items included a professional services agreement for long term planning in the electric division, equipment purchases, a new data management system and affirmation of the identity theft policy.”

Monte Jones is the chairman of the Board of Directors at Jackson Energy Authority.

“The data management system does provide additional safeguards for identifying potential issues with billing such as undetected water leaks for residents as well as being a source for additional power usage information that can be provided to industrial clients,” Jones said, “The board also changed meeting dates due to upcoming holidays to November 18 and December 21.”

Highlights from the September 2021 Labor Force Estimates:

The Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for Tennessee decreased from 4.6 percent in August 2021 to 4.4 percent in September 2021.

During the same time period, the Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for the United States decreased from 5.2 percent to 4.8 percent.

The unemployment rate decreased in 88 counties, increased in 6 counties, and remained the same in one county.

Williamson County had the lowest unemployment rate at 2.3 percent.

Perry County had the highest unemployment rate at 8.4 percent.

Leaders Education Foundation awards $20,000 to area educators

JACKSON, Tennessee – Leaders Education Foundation, a non-profit 501C-3, is pleased to award nineteen West Tennessee educators with the L.E.A.D.S. Educator Grant. This program awards $1,000 grants to area educators whose initiatives empower students to Learn, Experience, Advocate, Dream, and Serve.

“The L.E.A.D.S. Educator Grant embodies who we are as an organization because our organization exists to Make Lives Better, Together,” said Leigh Anne Bentley, President of Leaders Education Foundation. “We know that by supporting these educators’ projects that students’ lives will be made better in the classroom and beyond.”

Grant proposals range from funds for a school-wide garden to a frog dissection project for students, mathematic graphing tablets, to tv production equipment. Grant submissions included a short video explaining the need and use of the grant money. Dozens of proposals were submitted, and nineteen recipients were chosen by the community via social media voting.

West Tennessee Healthcare – Matt Tedford named employee of the month

Matt Tedford, a West Tennessee Healtcare employee for over 14 years was named the organization’s employee of the month for October.

Matt – Clinical Manager, Emergency Department – received the award during the West Tennessee Healthcare’s Board of Trustees monthly meeting at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, Tuesday.

Teresa Freeman, Chief Nursing Officer, Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, and James Fountain, executive director, emergency services made the presentation.
