BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – The Union University men’s golf team posted an eighth-place finish at the Tulsa Cup hosted by Rogers State University. Union freshman JJ Zimmer won medalist honors for his first collegiate win.
According to a press release from Steven Aldridge, Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Communication at Union University – the 3-round event was played at The Club at Indian Springs and featured 20 team and 104 golfers.
Zimmer won the tournament by one stroke. He was outside the top-10 after a first round 72, but then stormed back with a second round 66 and a final round 68. The 66 was the best round of the second round and third best score of the tournament behind a couple of 65’s. His 206 (-10) edged out Rogers State’s Luke Palmowski’s 207 (71, 68, 68).
Gray Campbell was tied for ninth after a first round 70, but followed that up with a 75 and a 73. His 218 (+2) landed the freshman in a tie for 28th place, but just 12 shots behind his winning teammate.
The other Union finishers included Timothy Pinkston T59 (78, 73, 74-225), Blake Wolfe T64 (75, 78, 74-227), and Trey Tidwell T87 (79, 78, 77-234).
