Rising along the banks of the Kentucky Lakes Big Sandy River is a one-of-a-kind structure utilizing a new, innovative Shipping Container Design/Construction Concept.
According to Cary Henson, president of Henson Construction Services Incorporated – this Concept provides Owner’s the opportunity to adjust the arrangement of shipping containers in the most advantageous configuration to create unique interior spaces, as well as customized exterior skins.
The Concept is envisioned to be mechanized and mass-produced to meet consumer demand in Residential Single-Family, Residential Multi-Family, Commercial and even Industrial markets.
“The Concept will fit easily in today’s “Green” & “Eco-Friendly” Building Trends,” Henson said, “However, the clinchers are simplicity and bottom-line construction savings from both cost and schedule perspectives. The construction schedule can be significantly decreased.”
Named the Henson Haven when built in 1955-1956, Betty and Jimmy Henson’s 1,050-square-foot rustic escape consists of solid pine wood floors, walls, and ceilings.
The kitchen stove is a 1950’s model Westinghouse that needs parts that may not exist.
“It is my intention to both maintain the uniqueness of my parent’s original construction while designing and building a one-of-a-kind vertical container addition that will accomplish the following goals,” Henson said.

⦁ Build a structure that will stimulate interest from my family and friends, and will instigate regular visits to enjoy. If the Grands want to come…my children will come early and often.
⦁ Get back into good physical condition and be physically working, as my other business duties allow. This has been achieved!
“During the time I was developing the Container Tower Concept, several family members and friends asked me if I would send them pictures of the Concept and progress photos during construction,” Henson said, “When the number got past a few, I visualized a laborious task to update everyone.”
Henson said he looked into – and eventually got a great friend – Cindi Warren, to create a Facebook Group to make the updates easy.
“Anyone interested in catching up on the development and progress of the Concept can follow “Cary’s Cabin Container Tower,” Henson said, “I am trying to make the project fun to follow. We currently have approximately 800 followers.
“I am thoroughly enjoying my hands-on role at 69 years young. I am out there, driving nails, cutting wood, screwing together floor, wall and roof framing, and loving it. I have not established a definitive schedule for completion but would like to do a lot more fishing in the Spring of 2022 than I got to do in 2021.”
Henson said it is his hope and ultimate dream that his concept will become popular, as an economical/speedy way to build Single-Family/Multi-Family Residential and Commercial and even “Specialty” Industrial Spaces.
“A Container and Framing package could be pre-cut and shipped to the site and erected directly on an already placed foundation,” Henson said, “The floors and roof could be pre-framed and window openings pre-cut.
“A trained crew could complete interior space framing and quickly be ready for systems rough-in and finishes. With the cost of materials skyrocketing, I envision many owners filling the role of builder. This concept will provide an easier means for owners to assume the role of builder.”
