Joseph Kabre is a man of few words, but he allows his menu at Jamaican & African Cuisine, 289 Vann Drive, do his talking.
Joseph, who left West Africa for the United States in 1996, made his way to Jackson after relocating from Michigan.
“I moved to Jackson because of the weather,” said Joseph, a husband and father of three, “We opened a grocery store and a dry cleaners, but we’ve put all our efforts into the restaurant.
“We don’t have something like this ( restaurant) in Jackson … it’s unique food in Jackson … the only Jamaican restaurant in Jackson. Our oxtail and jerk chicken are the most popular items.”
The restaurant – which also caters – opened at 101 Carriage House Drive, May 26, 2016, but the popularity of the restaurant required a move to Vann Drive.
“We moved to Vann Drive (September 2020) because we needed more space,” Joseph said, “There’s more traffic and the location is great – we love it.”
Business hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
