Resolution increasing starting salary of JPD approved by City Council

The Jackson City Council passed a resolution to increase the starting salary of a Jackson Police Officer during its monthly meeting at City Hall, Tuesday.

“We do need to be competitive and keep these officers and show they are appreciated,” said Marda Wallace, Council member District 7, “Increasing the starting salary for the Jackson Police Department, that’s been needed for a while, and it’s going to help us be more competitive in our area and hopefully retain those good employees the Jackson Police Department has.”

The City Council approved $1,021,868.64 to the JPD budget they were presented.

“They are lacking about six to eight positions,” Wallace said, “We will revisit this every year, and make adjustments year-by-year.”

The consideration of proposed budget amendments also included $79,538 for a JAG Grant and $36,448 for a PSN Grant for the JPD.
