Ford investing $5.6 billion in Memphis Regional Megasite – electric vehicle & battery manufacturing campus

The Ford Motor Company has selected the Memphis Regional Megasite in Haywood County for an electric vehicle and battery manufacturing campus.

Ford will invest $5.6 billion in the project and create 5,800 jobs.

State Senator Ed Jackson (R-Jackson) made the following statement regarding the announcement that Ford Motor Company will be locating a new manufacturing facility at the Memphis Regional Megasite:

“This is a total game changer for West Tennessee and one of the biggest jobs announcement in Tennessee history. All of this region will reap the benefits from this facility. We are excited to work with Ford as they move forward on this project that will bring new high-quality jobs with benefits to our area. It will also have a tremendous impact in bringing other businesses, industries and auto suppliers to West Tennessee. We appreciate all the work done by Governor Lee, Commissioner Rolfe and our local officials in securing this huge investment that will build a brighter future for Tennesseans.”

Jackson Energy Authority Board of Directors – highlights from monthly meeting

The Jackson Energy Authority board of directors held their monthly meeting at the JEA Training Center, 351 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, to discuss 14 items of business.

Highlights of those items included:

Revisions to the policy and procedures for the water, wastewater, and electric divisions to improve overall service.
Approval of purchasing requests for electric distribution transformers and equipment along with purchases of heavy equipment for the gas division.
Purchasing replacement service vehicles and heavy-duty vehicles.
Replacement of the HVAC units at the training system.
Purchase of an updated enterprise wireless network solution to improve communication for service calls.
Extension of an insurance brokerage services agreement.
Received an update on the Home Uplift Program designed to assist low income clients with energy saving home improvements.

“The board received financial reports which showed good results for the first two months of the current fiscal year,” said Monte Jones, JEA’s chairman of the board, “An update on the recent Tennessee Valley Lineman’s Rodeo hosted by JEA on the Jackson State Community College campus was also presented.”

Doe’s Eat Place sets opening date for restaurant in former Greyhound Bus Station

Doe’s Eat Place, which will occupy the historic Greyhound Bus Station in downtown Jackson, is tentatively scheduled to open in mid-November according to Jerry Moore, general manager.

Doe’s opened as a family-owned restaurant in Greenville, Mississippi, in 1941.

It has expanded locations throughout the South, in Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. The eatery is famous for its porterhouse steak.

Doe’s also offers fish and the restaurant has begun serving hot beef tamales.

The restaurant – which will also have a wine bar – will offer seating for 126, and a room for private dining will be available.

With the arrival of Doe’s, this will be the first time the landmark building will be in full-time operation since accepting its last Greyhound bus in October 2018.

The station, built in 1938, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993 for its
architectural significance.

The company conducts interviews from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., for all positions each Tuesday.

Construction continues on new Starbucks in Park Place West

Construction continues on a new Starbucks restaurant at 2851 Christmasville Cove in Park Place West.

An opening date has not been announced, but the 2,100-square-foot facility, located on a 1.7 acre corner lot – across from McDonald’s – will offer parking for 25 vehicles.
