Health Department to begin offering Pfizer COVID-19 booster doses, Monday, Sept. 27

The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department will begin offering booster doses of mRNA Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine Monday, Sept. 27, 2021.

The following populations are eligible to receive a booster dose of Pfizer-bioNTech COVID-19 vaccine:

  • People 65 years and older
  • Long-term care facility residents
  • Individuals 18 through 64 years of age with underlying medical conditions
  • Individuals 18 through 64 years of age who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting

Examples of underlying medical conditions include:

  • Cancer
  • Cerebrovascular disease
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • COPD
  • Diabetes type 1 or type 2
  • Heart conditions (such as heart failure, coronary artery disease or cardiomyopathies)
  • Obesity
  • Pregnancy or recent pregnancy
  • Smoking, current or former

Examples of individuals at increased risk of COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting include:

  • Health care worker
  • Teacher
  • First Responder
  • Grocery store worker
  • Worker or resident in congregate setting
  • Other occupations that deal directly with the public

Individuals must have completed their initial vaccination series at least 6 months before receiving a booster dose of Pfizer-bioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

Talk to your health care provider if you have questions about whether a booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine is appropriate for you.

Individuals wanting to receive a booster dose of mRNA Pfizer-bioNTech COVID-19 vaccine are not required to present documentation proving medical condition.

The health department offers Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine and Moderna COVID-19 vaccine Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. No appointment required.
