Clearloop breaks ground on new solar farm in Madison County

Clearloop, the only cleantech company working with brands and individuals to build domestic solar farms that both ‘clean up the grid and benefit distressed communities,’ introduced itself to Jackson and Madison County with a groundbreaking for a 1-megawatt solar farm at 2469 Technology Center Drive, Thursday.

Matt Kisber, a Jackson native and chairman of the board of Silicon Ranch Corporation discussed various benefits of the solar farm.

“Silicon Ranch is working with Clearloop who has contracted with a number of companies that are going to benefit from the solar attributes that come from the solar farm that will be built here at this site,” Kisber said, “These companies are working to offset the carbon impact of their products and their operations and this facility will produce renewable electricity that will afford them that offset.

“In addition to renewable electricity, you can see that this facility is maintained by using regenerative land management practices … what we call regenerative energy that includes sheep grazing that provides vegetation management to keep the grass under control.”

This is the first utility-scale solar farm in the United States directly financed by solar offsets, and is expected Clearloop’s solar farm will provide enough clean energy to power 200 homes.

“We’re glad to have Clearloop in the community,” said Jimmy Harris, mayor of Madison County, “What these folks are doing is creating a facility that is renewable energy, which I think everybody understands, and it gives companies an opportunity to be able to participate in something like this to allow them to have a green footprint in their company.”

Located just north of McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport, the solar farm will consist of approximately 2,000 solar panels.
