The Jackson Underdawgs pulled what is considered the biggest upset in the history of The Basketball Tournament with a 64-58 win over The House of ‘Paign,’ in a first round game at Carver Arena at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria, Ill., Saturday.
The No. 15 seed Underdawgs did not a have a player to score more than 10 points (Terrandus Smith, George Stanberry, 10 points each) but outrebounded the larger No. 2 seed squad made up mainly of players from the University of Illinois, 39-38, while adding 11 steals.
Coached by Dexter Williams, head boys basketball coach at Trinity Christian Academy, the Underdawgs advance to Monday’s second round against either Always a Brave, the Bradley alumni team, or Chicago Hoopville Warriors.
